Bananas...Not Just For Monkeys

I have written many times on how bananas are the wonder food. High in B vitamins, Iron, potassium, iron and fiber, bananas are the perfect energy source with a balanced amount of all three natural sugars. Bananas are also a medicinal food, used as a natural adjunct in the treatment of many diseases. Bananas have been very useful in treating stomach disorders such as ulcers. Bananas neutralize stomach acid and coat the stomach lining. They also act as an antacid, soothing heartburn. The New England Medical Journal says that eating bananas on a regular basis can cut the risk of stroke by 40%. Concerning a simple, common malady, rub the inside of a banana skin on a mosquito bite. The banana reduces swelling and irritation.

For those of you who are still stuck in the "Chiropractic is only good for back and neck pain model": Here is a great analogy.

Statement: "Chiropractors can not help the body with disease or organ function."

Reply:----- I understand why you might think that, I hope this example might help you to fully understand the effect of the spinal adjustment on function and health. I will use the heart as an example, but you can substitute any other organ or system in the body.

"There is a nerve from the brain to the heart, which tells the heart what to do. If you take a knife and cut that nerve what happens?" "Well, you die." "OK. If, instead of cutting that nerve, you twist it and squish it, would your heart be healthy or sick?" "It would get sick." "If there was a way to take that squished nerve, and un-squish it, would the heart stay sick, or would it get well?" "Would your internal organs function better with a bad nerve supply, or a good one?" Chiropractors are doctors of the nervous system, improving nerve flow, function, performance and health.

Skin Care, Smelly Armpits

Our skin is mostly thought of in ways of vanity. Do I have pimples or wrinkles? I need a tan. Stuff like that. The skin is actually the largest organ in our body and forms the integumentary system. The skin is directly controlled by the nervous system. How so? The skin doesn't really do anything? The skin actually is very important. Other than being our outer covering, the skin is an important part of our immune system, acting as our first barrier against germs and bacteria. The skin is responsible for cooling the body (perspiration) and the skin protects us from harm and injury (when we touch something hot, our skin's millions of sensory nerves let us know quickly). The fact about the skin that is mostly overlooked, is that the skin is permeable. That means, whatever is rubbed onto the skin gets directly absorbed into our blood stream and then throughout the rest of the body. Most people do not think twice about skin care products and the many man made chemicals and preservatives contained in them. For instance, one of the most sensitive parts of our skin is the underarm. Underarm deodorent is absorbed directly through the underarm pores and contains many harmful chemicals. One of the most common chemicals is aluminum which is directly linked to Alzheimer's disease. The safest thing to use as a deodorant is all natural, organic deodorents found in the health food store. No harmful chemicals to worry about being aborbed into the skin. I use the Jason product line and nobody has complained about any foul smells leaking from my body. At least to my face anyway.

Rice is Nice

Rice is a grain high in fiber, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and the B vitamins. Rice is an energy boosting complex carbohydrate and low in fat. Rice is great for the digestion and has even been shown to help rid the body of diarrhea. There are many kinds of rice. The biggest difference is between brown rice and white rice. Brown rice is the more nutritious rice and has all of the fiber. White rice is the most popular, but has had all its natural nutritious value removed during the milling process. Some of the vitamins (this time, man-made) are added back during enrichment. But not the fiber. White rice is also higher in calories. A rice based diet has been shown to lower the risk of heart disease, diabetes, obesity and high cholesterol. Organic rice milk is a great tasting substitute for people who are lactose intolerant or have dairy allergies.
