Rice is Nice

Rice is a grain high in fiber, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and the B vitamins. Rice is an energy boosting complex carbohydrate and low in fat. Rice is great for the digestion and has even been shown to help rid the body of diarrhea. There are many kinds of rice. The biggest difference is between brown rice and white rice. Brown rice is the more nutritious rice and has all of the fiber. White rice is the most popular, but has had all its natural nutritious value removed during the milling process. Some of the vitamins (this time, man-made) are added back during enrichment. But not the fiber. White rice is also higher in calories. A rice based diet has been shown to lower the risk of heart disease, diabetes, obesity and high cholesterol. Organic rice milk is a great tasting substitute for people who are lactose intolerant or have dairy allergies.
