Vitamin C....Superhero!

Vitamin C is the wonder vitamin. The healing and healthful properties of vitamin C are so powerful, C could be considered the Superhero of vitamins. Vitamin C functions as an antioxidant and helps to repair damaged cells and tissues. Vitamin C plays an important role in immune system function, bone development, protein & hormone synthesis and wound healing. Vitamin C's most important role is as an antibacterial and antiviral agent. Vitamin C helps to kill off dangerous bacteria and viruses. Vitamin C's role in fighting off a cold or the flu is well documented. Studies have also shown that Vitamin C has anti-cancer properties and mega doses of C have shrunk tumors and killed cancer cells. Vitamin C is found naturally in citrus fruits, but is also present in tomatoes, green peppers, asparagus, green leafy vegetables, melons and strawberries. Daily intake of vitamin C for an adult would be 500-1000mg. When a viral infection or cold is present it is important to take vitamin C in multiple doses throughout the day. Vitamin C is water soluble, which means it does not stay in the body for long, so it needs to be replaced when fighting off an illness. 2000-3000mg every 4 hours is not an uncommon dosage for an adult fighting off an illness. Vitamin C is not harmful, when too much is consumed, diarrhea occurs, which then tells you to cut back on the dosage.
Thought for the Week: "The really good physician prevents disease, he cannot cure anything." ------J.H. Tilden, MD
Chiropractic Though for the Week: "Chiropractic's main virtue is that it's care is preventative in nature. Regular spinal adjustments boost immune system function, fostering health. Spinal adjustments also slow the degenerative process (arthritis) and balance and strengthen muscular stability. The "adjustment" helps to prevent dis-ease." ----------Dr. J.Z.
