Organic Food

Organic food is hard to find and is more expensive than "regular" food. So why purchase organic food? One main reason, drugs. Pesticides, antibiotics and growth hormones are deadly ingredients found in the most common of foods. For example, in 1994, the FDA found high pesticide residues in some of the more popular breakfast cereals. Strawberries are considered the single most pesticide laden product in the USA. Pesticides were found in more than half of the baby foods tested. 5% of the peach crop is considered contaminated with excessive pesticides. Most dairy farms inject their cows with bovine growth hormone to boost milk production. Bananas are produced with the pesticide benomyl which is linked to birth defects. To make matters worse, pesticides that are banned for use in the United States are still being sold for use in other countries. Imported grapes and melons have shown high levels of pesticides that are banned in the USA. Another reason to eat organic is that the organic vegetables and fruits have been shown to have a higher nutrient value than inorganic.

Thought for the Week: "Every time people chose organic food they are choosing the kind of world that they want to live in by voting with their fork." ----------Marion Nestle, Center for Science in the Public Interest

Chiropractic Tip of the Week: "The beauty of chiropractic is the fact that it works with natural means. It puts nothing new into the body, nor does it take away any gland or organ. Chiropractic simply releases life forces within the body, setting free the energy through the nerves, letting nature do its work." -----BJ Palmer, DC
